Lots of people encourage the mum and dad to be to talk to the child during pregnancy. Seems like a good idea to us, so we describe daily events to the child; ordinary things like what we did at work and the sunspot cycle.

But we want to be careful not to stifle the child with our limited world view. So we figured let's let the kid do some of their own exploration. War and Peace was the baby's first choice but now they're on to some easier fare.


I must admit that I may have pressured baby into choosing Moby Dick as it is a personal favourite of mine. I just hope the baby doesn't misunderstand the first paragraph and expect to be named Ismail.
